Preparation Guid

For Brides, Trial Sessions & Special Appointments

At SAY MAKEUP ARTIST, we believe beauty begins with thoughtful preparation. These simple steps will help your makeup and hair look flawless, last longer, and help you feel your absolute best on your special day.

01. Skin Preparation

Two Days Before Your Appointment Gently exfoliate your face to remove dead skin cells that may interfere with smooth foundation application.

Wedding and special-event makeup is performed within a limited time frame, so proper skin preparation is essential. If skin issues require reapplication or correction, it may affect the overall schedule.

Recommended Exfoliator Type
Use a gentle exfoliator designed for dry skin that rolls off when massaged. This type of exfoliation effectively removes buildup without irritating the skin.

Avoid peel-off masks or products that require extended waiting time. Korean exfoliators are highly recommended and are widely available online.

Tip
Avoid harsh scrubs or introducing new skincare products right before your appointment—especially if you have sensitive skin.

On the Morning of Your Appointment

Cleanse Gently wash your face to remove any skincare residue or leftover makeup

Hydrate Apply your regular skincare — toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen — in that order. Focus on moisture to keep your skin supple and ready for makeup.

Avoid These Products Heavy oils or thick creams that don’t absorb easily Brightening or peeling products that may irritate the skin. Any new products you haven’t used before

Inform Us in Advance If you have any allergies to makeup or skincare ingredients, please let us know ahead of time.

If you require coverage for a problematic skin condition (e.g., severe acne or scarring), please notify us when booking — this may require additional time and a customized approach.

02. Hair Preparation

Step 1: Arrive with Clean, Fully Dried Hair

One of the most common questions brides ask is, “Should I wash my hair on the day of my event?”

While some sources may suggest otherwise, at SAY MAKEUP, we always recommend starting with freshly washed and completely dried hair. Oily or product-heavy hair can weigh down your style and limit how well styling tools perform.

Clean hair offers the best foundation for a polished, long-lasting look. Ideally, wash and dry your hair the morning of the appointment. If that’s not possible, the night before is the next best option.

Please avoid wet or damp hair on arrival — it will delay the styling process.

Step 2: Hair Accessories

SAY MAKEUP does not provide hair accessories. If you have special pieces (e.g., a hairpin, floral crown, tiara, or comb), please bring them with you on the day of your service.
Make sure they are clean and ready to use

03. Wardrobe Preparation

Make Changing Easy & Stress-Free

  • For weddings: We recommend wearing a button-down shirt or a robe so you can change outfits easily without disturbing your hair and makeup.
  • For trials: Wear a top in a similar color to your wedding dress — this helps you better visualize the complete look.
  • For engagement or event makeup: Choose a button-down or zippered top that’s easy to remove after styling

    Additional Note:

A Little Extra Prep Goes a Long Way

Get Inspired Before your session, save makeup and hair inspirations that speak to you.
Pinterest boards and Instagram posts are great ways to show us what styles you’re drawn to.
You can also share photos of yourself from past events — both looks you loved and those you didn’t. This helps us understand your preferences more clearly.

Bring Your Makeup Bag Your personal makeup bag gives us insight into the tones, textures, and products you feel most confident using.
It’s not necessary for the appointment, but it’s a helpful way to tailor the experience to your individual taste.

Wedding day Preparation

What You Need to Know When Booking On-Location Makeup & Hair Services with SAY MAKEUP ARTIST

Planning your big day comes with so many moving pieces, and one of the most exciting parts is getting ready with your loved ones, surrounded by laughter, music, and that fluttery feeling of anticipation.

For wedding day on-location bookings,

I’ll be arriving with a hairstylist. Please note that it’s not possible to receive both hair and makeup at the same time—we’ll alternate services between party members.

Knowing how many people will need services helps us set the perfect pace for your morning.

Before finalizing the timeline, we’ll also coordinate with your photographer to align our prep time with your first look and bridal portraits.

Typically, things begin with flat-lay shots (rings, dress, details), then first-look moments, and finally family photos.

I’ll provide a suggested timeline to help keep your morning flowing beautifully—but if you have preferences, I’d love to hear them in advance!

Morning of the Wedding

Let’s keep it simple but effective. Here’s how you and your bridal party should prep:

Arrive with clean, dry hair (no flat-irons or curls beforehand).

Have a fresh, makeup-free face—your natural canvas is perfect.

Wear a button-down shirt or robe to protect your final look during outfit changes.

If anyone has allergies or skin sensitivities, please let us know beforehand.

Be sure that at least two people are ready to go when we arrive to avoid any delays.

You’ll also get a friendly reminder from us during wedding week with these exact tips—just in case!

hear them in advance!

Hotel Prep: Valet Vouchers Matter

If you’re getting ready at a hotel, please prepare a valet parking voucher for us.

We’ll be arriving with chairs, makeup kits, and styling tools, so self-parking can be tricky with all that gear.

If the hotel allows advance arrangements, let them know we’ll be coming. Otherwise, please be sure to provide a voucher before our services are complete.

Venue Prep: The Little Details Help

Is your bridal suite located in a separate building or up a flight of stairs?

Please share that with us at least a day before the wedding. The more we know, the better we can prepare and arrive on time, ready to go.
